Hello!

things have been busy here, with the web page moving along at quite a pace. I have to upload photos of products, descriptions and prices then we are ready to go live!!

In the mean time I'm also working on another wedding quilt. Very Exciting, its always a joy to be part of two people committing their lives together. This time another colleague, Natalie from work is marrying her long time partner. I have know Natalie as a new nurse, learning midwife and now new midwife. It's always exciting to watch someone's career progress and their dreams come true.

So Miss Nat's quilt this came to being from seeing one a friend made for Aussie Quilts (and Hero's). Unfortunately the wonderful Carolyn had no idea which quilt I was talking about when I told her of my plan. Shopping for fabric began and we hunted for a collection of 1930's reproduction prints

Then cutting. Always more fun with a friend!

then sewing...

putting on the bubbles....

finished product!!

hope you love it my friend xx

What can I say. Another fantabulous day had by myself. Glad I had Carolyn along with me as we had a ball!! Urban Stitches. Organised by Erica of Under the Mulberry Tree. Pictured with myself and Carolyn below.  What a well planned person. gift bags, her shop transported from Melbourne (there about) so we could SHOP.

Melly from Melly & Me is a delight. the pendant I'm wearing is what I made, a teeny tiny butterfly with the smallest satin stitch I had attempted, so glad I had the chance to be shown how. One of the blobby bits on the antenna was stitched by Melly.....

Rosalie Quinlan. What an inspiration, having just met this woman I wont go into details, but I was inspired! Her project for us was a needle case and sewing bag. too cute. I learnt how to do a lattice stitch with couching. I will take pictures of the creations and post separately, or this will be to huge and everyone will get bored reading!!

So this is me with all three ladies.... Jodie is behind Ric Rac and a loud personality, lots of fun and quick to tell you her opinon. I'm most pleased to say Jodie likes the name of my web page/shop to be!!! During show and tell, these gorgeous women were happy to promote my upcoming buisness  which is still in such a baby phase! They shared tips, places to get items and all three are happy for me to sell their creations as I make them. Credit for their design skill will of course always be given.
Cute name tags.....

Carolyn's fox, Jodie's project for us today, I made the body of mine.
With three tables of stitchers, each designer moved tables after each break, I chose to start the project by each person when they were at my table. So completed one. and started the other two.

I just thought this little post man was too cute. I want one for my uncle and aunt who have a post office!

This is me with Jodie. What a personality! I cant believe in the 'real world' she is a librarian!!!!!!!

A collection of Melly's designs. So cute in real life! Sorry that you all only get a photo... disappointing for everyone I'm sure!!
These last couple of photos show some of us hard at work. I tool loads of pics and it was hard to choose what to share. in the coming days I will have to write again to show you all the things we made. Mine will be in progress but that's OK

Another wonderful day. I"m of now to help my girl with an assignment and do some more stitching!! such a wonderful bug to catch.
I hope a wonderful weekend was had by all. Before AI forget Happy Fathers day to all the dads and mZums who do both jobs!

Hugs,
Amanda xx

Today has been so exciting! Saturday I went to Quilting on the Downs, at Windsor Downs, NSW to a quilt show. I got to meet Chris Jurd (www.chrisquilts.blogspot.com ) AND Marg Low (www.marlglowdesigns.com)
I had a lovely time chatting to both ladies Marg showed me how to make a yo-yo (the fabric version) so I went home and had a go. I made her Scissor Keeper.....

The above lovely was made out of bits of table clothes and doilies! I have loads of my grandmothers, many of which she embroidered. They are special to me, as Nan died nearly 18 years ago...
The next three pictures are one of my creations. the main fabric is from the Appke Jack range, which I LOVE! its by Tim & Beck for moda fabrics. This is a gift, hence the last view all wrapped up and ready to go. I hope its loved!

That's all from me today! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. Tomorrow I'm of to Urban Stitches, in Parramatta at the Novotel with my good friend Carolyn...

hugs,

Quilt Class!

This past two weeks I've discovered quilt class! My good friend invited me to go along to her class, they had a spare spot. So of I went and had a ball!

For a face book group I'm in we have a challenge to make a summer themed cushion cover... I've started mine in class a block called "Attic Window" which is a window framing a vase of flowers. This is a completely new block to me with applique!! My worst nightmare but I braved up and of I went.

Fabric choice was a collection I acquired from Logan's Fabrics a while back...

Then to choose a light fabric for the bottom ledge, light for the side and plain for the 'window'.
I achieved this with little fuss! cut and sewed it up with some drama as I cut to short, so Mrs Teacher showed me a trick... Selected fabric for the Vase, stems, flowers and leaves....

I appliqued the vase and stems using machine applique then to learn needle turn applique for the leaves and flowers....

There you have it! one half completed attic window! I'll put up the finished cushion cover when its done!

I also learnt about stack and slash blocks... more on that when I have photos to share!
If you get a chance go along to a quilt class or sewing group first to learn second to meet a group of fun loving like minded people! I am looking forward to my own shop with classes for all!!

Hi!
I just realized its been a while since I wrote anything.....
Maybe I have nothing to say? In reality I've been unwell and trying to keep working, get well, sew, support my daughter through another career change...... everyday life really!

I've had the past week on annual leave from my work as a midwife.... I had so much planned! and was too sick to do anything.
High on my list was the Sydney Craft and Quilt show at Glebe Island... this magical event lasted 4 days, I had tickets for 2 made it to 1! Luckily I went with my quilty friend, Carolyn. Even better she offered to drive and didn't complain when at 4pm I gave up and asked to go home......

However we still managed an adventure..... the quilt show was incredible, no pics 'cos they ask you don't use pics for more than personal use. Fair enough... would love to share them with you however....

I learnt how to make the cutest purse....  no pics cos when I machine sewed it at home I broke the zipper

Whilst on Christmas.... went to a workshop by Picklemouse Corner (from Leura in the Blue Mountains... www.picklemousecorner.com ) and some lovely gift ideas for me to make!! A quilt as you go santa stocking, decorated tea towels and place mats. A tree pattern I will most likely get at a later date.... I"ll make and post on my facebook page soon!
I explored fabric dying/painting with Lisa Walton.. and got a dragonfly stencil to add dragonfly's to my creations. Along with paint/dye of course and some gold foil...... cant wait to show that off!

After that I lived in my bed for a few days, Mum fortunately had planned to visit! We had an advenutre day to Oberon... where my Uncle and Aunt live. It had been SNOWING!!!! naturally a snowball fight was in order.... and naturally I got sicker......

So now I'm on the road to recovery, 5 more days until I'm back at work..... so 5 days of sewing, being brave and getting an ABN, and working hard on setting up more of my buisness

Hugs to all! and I hope no-one else has been struck down with a vicious cold

Wednesday 4 June 2014

Hi!
I'm loving the cooler days, not so much the nights. We have brought out the blankets for watching TV in the lounge room here!

Today I went on an adventure with a good friend. I'm fortunate to have a little zippy (all be it old) car, so we opened the roof and zipped into the city to find Logan's Patchwork.

And spent far to much money but had a grand day!

This pack needed to come home, it will be used to make a cushion for a group I belong to.

this was just to pretty to pass up...

I found these in different sections of the shop, then on arriving home found they go together very well. It is interesting a different arrangement of the order and the fabrics look not so nice together.

Caterpillar yellow. A must have! Years ago, my grandfather had an earthmoving business. Many, many  years ago. I remember when the last truck was sold, Mum stood, watched go past our house and cried, as an era of her life was over. I found this today, perfect lap quilt for my Uncle this Christmas

A little bit of fun. While putting my shopping away, I discovered I already had the grey fat quarter. I must really like it!!

Last of all, Dr Seuss!! This arrived home to be snapped up by my teenage daughter... along with some purple bats for her inner goth.

After that shopping spree, we headed back to Caroline's home to pin a quilt.. more about that little project later!

All in all a great day out, we also snuck in lunch at a little place called The Local, down the street from Logan's.  Both places are found in Moore St Leichart.  If you feel like a drive towards the city, this is a very pleasant way to pass the day.

Hugs to all,
Amanda
